Crocoite is a compound of lead and chromium (lead chromate). it is the chromium that gives this rare mineral its vibrant red-orange color. The most notable source for crocoite is The Dundas District in Tasmania, where it was once mined for lead. Crocoite is also considered the unofficial gem of this Australian island state.
